I haven’t done a craft fair for ages, and have been put off because of past experience. Two things are inspiring me for the Valentine networking fair I’m doing at Castle Acre. No 1 – I think it is geared to good quality arty craft (if you know what I mean) and there’s going to be entertainment and yummy refreshments and networking as well. No 2 - On my own part I have decided to focus on one area of my work and make a display that gels rather than having lots of different stuff on my stall.
I’ve had the Idea of displaying my work on cake plates to make it enticing and yummy with things people want to pick up and buy! I think I’m going to call it my pick n Mix. Here’s how I’ve started….

I’ve been waiting to show you these, I’ve had them done for a while but wanted to show you my progress in the order it happened so now it’s the knittings turn. The knitting is put around the stone as neatly as possible so as to take on the stones shape. I also like the deception that they look like they would be very light to pick up but are unexpectedly heavier than they appear.

These are art pieces in themselves and I will be working on more of them and developing the idea.

Moving forward to looking at producing work from some of my observations and sketches. I have cut some stencils for screen printing and started doing some colour work.

colour prints combining my existing stone stencils with the newly cut ones….

…I’m getting a feeling of the sea and shallow water over stones and rocks, quite calm pieces I think. I can’t wait to do more. I’ve got some other stuff to show you too!

Christmas Presents – Books

I had some lovely Christmas presents including these three books, each one quite inspirational in its own right!

‘River Cottage Veg’ – not to everyones taste but Hugh is my lifestyle guru so I wanted this for Christmas. Unexpectedly inspirational for my art as well because when I opened it all the illustrations have been made by printing vegetables.

The second was ‘The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse’ by Eric Carle, I always love his illustrations all made from surface design.

The third lovely book I got was ‘The Drawings of Henry Moore’ an absolutely amazing book full of gorgeous drawings.

Now I want to try out all these tecnique and more so I’m going to be very busy in 2012 I think!

Hi everybody, great to be back after a few days break. Hope you had a lovely Christmas and your New Year has started well. I have lots of ideas and hopes for 2012 and I am looking forward to all the things God has planned for me! I had a book on the drawings of Henry More for Christmas, quite inspirational, lots of drawings of stones, bones and shells!

Here are some more of my stone observations, working with cutting magazine pages this time…

….I’ve just had a thought, these images could be used as inspiration for block prints.

I am enjoying examining and drawing stones. Here is a more artistic interpretation of my stones.

I like these, I’m thinking I might do more in a row and produce something quite wide.

More clay work

Last weekend I started another piece of clay work. Initially it was going to be a larger version of the last one I did because I liked it so much, but it’s amazing how things change when you relax into the medium. As I’ve worked on it, it’s started to take on a different feel….

…..who knows what is going to happen before it’s finished!
